Weekend Update!

This weekend was one of a lot of excitement!  On Friday night, we kicked the weekend off with a girls' night hosted by Kathleen.  Alysia and I got to indulge in some good cookin' and of course, lots of girly gossip!

Most of Saturday was spent laying by the pool (which is officially my idea of the perfect summer day), and that night I was in charge of date night.  Since I recently bought a Groupon for Bombasha (a new Brazilian Steakhouse in Nashville) I decided to take my beau there for a nice meal.  It was really yummy and their specialty drink (also called Bombasha) was AH-MAZING!  It was sooooo yummy that it made me wish I wasn't the DD so I could have 2!

After that we headed to see Bridesmaids!  If you haven't seen that movie, you must go immediately!  I loved it and thought it was the perfect date night movie (something for the girls/something for the guys).

On Sunday, I went to the First Annual Nashville Kids Triathalon.  My friend Sandy's kids were participating and since they cheered me on at the half marathon, I decided to head down to Centennial Park and cheer them on.  Here are a few pics of the day:

Libby about to drop off her bike!
After the triathalon, Patrick and I attempted to head to the pool...however, the storms that came through kinda ruined that.  SOOOO, we then decided to head to the Humane Society to just "look" at dogs.  Well, "looking" turned into finding the perfect dog and that lead to us putting this little guy on hold:

No, we weren't exactly LOOKING for a dog, and we also weren't prepared to take this little guy home...in fact, as you can see, we are both wearing our Kickball uniforms because we were headed straight to a game.  However, how could we resist that face?

The weekend was finished off with a kickball win (the other team forfeited, but a win's a win, right?) and then a yummy Mexican dinner with Patrick, Kathleen, and Mickey!

Needless to say...this weekend was a little more eventful than anticipated...it's all so exciting though, that it makes it all worth it!  Can't wait until next weekend begins!!!!!

The Summer I Went to Europe - Day 1

Now that I've been back in reality for several days, I finally have a little time to update my blog about my trip.  Because this trip was AH-MAZING, I want to make sure I capture every moment and therefore, I am going to devote a post to each day of the vacation.  So...without further ado:

The trip began on Sunday, May 22, when our plane left Nashville at 1:00 pm.  I was soooooo glad to have a fairly late flight because we had all been up pretty late the night before because of the wedding shower...this proved to be a bit of a curse, but I'll get to that later.  Because I woke up that morning with a bit of a head cold, I loaded up on medicine and proceeded to get on the plane:
I love taking plane pictures...Patrick humors me and smiles.  =)
For those who don't know me, you don't realize what a worrier/control freak I can be.  It's gotten better as I have gotten older, but I have a seriously hard time just letting go of many different situations.  Patrick, on the other hand, is one of the most calm, cool, and collected people I know.  This will be a common theme throughout the entire trip, but it first became relevant on this first leg of our flight.

Because we only had an hour layover, these are the thoughts going through my head during the flight from Nashville to JFK:
  • What if our first flight leaves late?
  • What if we miss our flight because we can't get through the airport in enough time?
  • What if our luggage doesn't make it on the second flight because they don't have enough time to transport it?
  • What if I don't have time to go to the bathroom and I am stuck using only an airplane bathroom for the next 7 hours?
  • I really want to grab a soda for the flight...what if I don't have time to grab anything to drink?
Needless to say, Patrick was convinced that everything would be okay, and sure enough it was...we got to the plane in plenty of time, and I was even able to grab a soda, too.  =)  Once I was finally on the plane to Barcelona, I was finally able to relax:

A much calmer, happier Melissa!
One thing I realized, though, is that even though I could relax, I definitely could not sleep!  Maybe it was my excitement, maybe it was the fact that we were traveling between 5pm and midnight "Nashville" time, but by the time we landed in Barcelona, I was one miserable lady!  Patrick (who was able to sleep a good 4 hours during the flight) was very patient with me, and did everything he could to make sure we got to the ship as soon as possible!

After getting on the ship, we ate a quick lunch and then headed to take a wonderful, glorious nap!  It was amazing and exactly what I needed to go on about my day and actually enjoy the ship.  That evening, we went to our first dinner and met the other people seated at our table.  One couple was in their mid-forties and lived in Boston and the other 2 were sisters-in-law, one of which lived in Connecticut and the other lived in Ireland.  After talking to her, Patrick and I both decided that Ireland was definitely going to the top of our "Must Visit" list!

After dinner, we explored the ship a little bit and took a few pictures:

Doesn't he look handsome?

Trying to capture the beautiful sunset behind us!

This picture makes me look tanned...it's all an illusion!
Finally, after a little gambling, it was time to head to the Royal Promenade for the DreamWorks Parade.  It was a great way to kick off the trip with some of the characters from DreamWorks movies.
This area is like "Main Street" on the ship!

Kung Fu Panda was definitely our favorite!

I think this is Donkey from Shrek?

And of course, no parade is complete without Shrek and Fiona!
Because we were heading into Cannes bright and early the next day, it was finally time to head to bed...all-in-all, it was a great day!

Weekend Update - Last Weekend, That Is!

Since I was a little out-of-pocket last week, I decided to go ahead and do last week's Weekend Update before I get to all of my traveling adventures.  Because I took a few days off at the end of the week, my weekend officially began on Tuesday evening.  However, not much happened for the first few days other than running errands, packing and cleaning my house.

THEN, on Saturday night, a few girlfriends and I threw Mickey and Kathleen a couples' shower at my house!  Because they are taking a honeymoon to Hawaii, we went with a Luau theme.  It was a great time, and they got some really cool gifts.  Here are a few pics of the decorations:

Some of the Food

This is a Cooler...Is that not the coolest thing EVER?

Gift Table - Before any gifts were added!  =)
Also, here are a few pics of the actual party:
Kathleen with all of the shower hosts:  Anna Catherine, Me, Andrea, and Jennifer

Kathleen with all of her Bridesmaids (except Elizabeth who lives in the Caymans):  Anna Catherine, Me, Andrea, Jennifer, Emily, and Jenny

Mickey and Kathleen with her mom and dad!

Mickey and Kathleen playing the shoe game (BTW, if you have ever host a couples' shower, you must play this game...it's pretty hilarious!)

Looks like they are both PUMPED about all of their kitchen gear!
Sunday, was the day I had been waiting for for months.  Patrick and I left to head out on our trip!  It was a very LOOOOOOONNNNNNG day of traveling, but also the beginning of a super fun trip!  Stay tuned for more updates!

Ipod Love

Yes, I realize that it's 2011...not 2001, but I just got my first Ipod!  In fact, a few weeks ago, this was me:
However, thanks to Patrick, I am now the proud owner of an Ipod Shuffle, and I love it!  I have only gone running with it once, but I seriously don't know how I ever exercised without it.

Now I need your help!  The main reason I wanted an Ipod was for running, and I need more running approriate songs!  What songs are a MUST during your workouts?  Any help is greatly appreciated!

#65 -- DONE!!!!!

I'm so excited to get back into my 101 Things!  I can't believe how long it's been!

In October 2005, I made what I consider my first "big girl" purchase...a brand new car!  I loved that car so much, and I still do...but as the years went on, I became well aware of the car payment and what a big pain it was EVERY SINGLE MONTH!  Well, I am happy to say that I made my final car payment this week, and now that car is ALL MINE!!!!!  I surely hope I can drive it for several more years so I can save up some money for other, more fun items!
Just before dropping it in the mail!

What I'm Loving Wednesdays!

What’s up ladies? It’s Wednesday and you know what that means…this week it means a lot more than usual because I am LOVING sooooooo many things this week:

1. I am loving that TODAY is the first day in my 2 week vacation from work! I really enjoy my job…really…I do, but I have been looking forward to this little sabbatical for quite some time and I intend to FULLY enjoy it!

2. I am loving that in exactly 4 days, my beau and I will be heading here:
Cannes, France
And here:
Florence, Italy
And here:
Rome, Italy
And here:
Barcelona, Spain
3. I am loving that this evening I will be enjoying a belated birthday dinner with my beau at Eastland CafĂ©…I’ve never been there, but I’m really excited to try it…and who knows, we may even use the Dairy Queen Birthday coupon I have for dessert. =)

4. I am NOT loving the weather here in Nashville this week (rainy and COLD); however, I am pretty excited that it’s finally supposed to be nice this weekend…just in time for Kathleen and Mickey’s Couples Shower that a few girls and I are throwing this Saturday!

5. I am loving that after a small lull during tax season, I have finally marked another item off my 101 Things list! Stayed tuned later in the week for an update!

What are you loving this week? Head over to Jamie’s blog and tell us all about it!
