What I'm Loving Wednesdays!

Hello everyone!  I hope you all have had wonderful Wednesdays!  I know that I feel much better knowing that over half the work week is finally over!  This Wednesday, I am loving:

1.  That this weekend is Mother's Day and I get to celebrate with the BEST MOM EVER!  Yes, I know...we all think we have the best mom ever...as we should!  I do have a pretty fabulous mom though, and this weekend, we get to shop together, lay by the pool together, gossip together, and just generally have a fun girly time!  Can't wait!

2.  That Patrick and I have finally finalized all of the details of our trip across the Big Pond!  Our flight is scheduled, our cruise is paid for, and as of today, our hotel is booked and our ride to the ship is finalized!  Now all I need is to pack my bags and head to Europe with my favorite travel partner!

3.  That I get to have dinner with Andi this weekend!  She and I haven't hung out in forever and this weekend (since our beaus are both out of town) we get to have dinner at our favorite restaurant and hang out, and I can't wait!
4.  This guy:

He was so sweet this weekend during the half marathon.  Not only was he the perfect photographer, but he also made sure everyone stayed organized, and he cheered me on at every stop.  Not to mention, he does a GREAT Hulk Hogan impression!  =)

Head on over to Jamie's blog and tell us what you're loving while there's still time on this lovely Wednesday!

Country Music Half Marathon!

Amazingly enough, I actually got a pretty good night's sleep Friday night, but I woke up bright and early at 4:30 on Saturday morning!  I was soooooooo nervous (like, I couldn't eat that morning for fear of throwing up, nervous)!!!!!  However, before I headed out the door, my sweet mom woke up to take the only pic of the entire day when I looked like I wasn't dying:
Next, I was off to meet my work friends at LP Field (the finish line where all the runners park their cars).  I immediately felt better when I saw them.  I'm not sure why, but there is something to be said for being with people who are in the same boat as you to really calm you down.  After Leslie's husband gave us a ride to the start line, and we walked around for a bit, it was time for the race to begin.  Because the Country Music Marathon is so freakin' big, there is a wave start, and since Leslie, Mark, and Sandy all were in a much lower corral than I was we went our separate ways and I headed to get in line with my fellow runners.  As I got closer and closer to the start line though, a strange thing happened.  My nervousness began to fade and excitement took over.  I began the race at 7:40 am and immediately was feeling really good.  I had to slow myself down during the beginning of the race because I didn't want to tire myself out too early.

Miles 1-3 went really well, despite the fact that there were several hills.  As I finished my first 5K, though, I started filling a twinge of pain in my knee...I told myself that I was just imagining it and that I just needed to keep running.

As I came up to mile 5, my knee was really hurting, but I knew my family, Patrick and Alysia were waiting up ahead, so I decided that if I could just make it to them, I would be okay.  Also, around mile 5 is when my cell phone decided to die...yes, along with my phone, I also lost my music...so sad, but I just hoped that there was enough stuff going on in the crowd that I wouldn't get too bored.  As I came around the curve, I saw my cheering section waving and cheering for me!  It was amazing!  I didn't stay at that stop for very long, but I was there long enough to pass off my cell phone and to get a few hugs from my Mama and my Beau:

My mom is always there to give a big hug!
Sidenote:  Having my family and friends there to cheer me on a few miles in was the most wonderful thing ever!  I really was beginning to have a hard time, but as soon as I saw them, I got a renewed sense of energy.  I immediately felt better.  I saw my family again at mile 8 and I still felt great (except for that pesky knee problem).  Also, during the 30 minutes since I had seen them last, Alysia had been working hard creating playlist of music on her Ipod.  I was so freakin' excited that I was going to have some help to get me through the final 5 miles.
Alysia had my armband ready and everything!

Still smiling even after 8 miles!
I had decided a few days before the race that if my knee started hurting badly that I was going to walk miles 8-10.  I thought that if I could take a break in the middle that I would be able to finish strong.  Looking back on it, this is the one thing I regret of the day.  I did walk miles 8-10 and I thought that it would be easy to start running again when the time came.  However, it proved to be very difficult.  In fact, the last 3 miles of the half marathon were extremely difficult for me.  Not only did my knee hurt with every step, but I was REALLY tired.  I couldn't believe that I had felt so good at Mile 8 and then felt SO BAD at mile 11.  However, I still managed to finish the race in 3:00:58.  It wasn't the best time in the world and there were certainly THOUSANDS of people who finished ahead of me, but I am very proud of my accomplishment and am very excited that I beat the time from my last half marathon by over 15 minutes!
Me, very tired and in a lot of pain, after finishing the race!

At the finish line I had MANY supporters:
Mark, Leslie, and Sandy (my work buddies) and Ainsley and Libby (Sandy's adorable kids)

Alysia and Patrick

Mama and Daddy
Thank you sooooooo much to all of you for coming out and supporting me and for giving me encouragement throughout this entire experience.  I appreciate all of you more than you will ever know!

When asked if I would run another half marathon, my answer is definitely "yes." I will absolutely do another one, and would love to improve my time by another 15 minutes the next time! =)

Weekend Update!

This weekend, more than others, was very, very fun! In fact, I can't remember a better family weekend in quite some time! Friday night, my beau and I each had a work function we needed to stop by, but I also wanted to get home early for the big race! After making 2 quick stops, we headed back to my house and I made a spaghetti dinner to carbo-load before the big race.

Saturday morning was spent at the half marathon (post to come) and Saturday afternoon my mom and I went to Kat's first wedding shower!  She got tons of good stuff, and her aunt and cousin put together a wonderful shower.

After the shower, it was time for dinner with Patrick, my parents, and Adam and Alacia.  It was a yummy, yummy meal.  Despite the fact that I was exhausted, my mom and I can't spend a weekend together without making at least one trip to the mall.  Gotta love that Macy's stays open until 10:00 pm.

Sunday was pretty low-key...church, lunch, and relaxation for the rest of the day.  It was such a wonderful day...I really needed some downtime.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

A Night of Nerves!

This is it...the night before the big race...and by big, I mean huge!  There will be more than 30,000 people running this little race with me tomorrow, and that in and of itself freaks me out!  How do I really feel about the big day?

Well, I'm excited, I'm nervous, and I'm scared.  I'm scared that my knee is going to hurt.  I'm scared that because of all the people that I won't get to see my family at all of their pre-planned stops.  I'm scared that I won't finish in a good time.  I'm scared I won't be able to run the whole thing.  I'm scared that the fact that it is 10:41 pm and I am still awake will really hurt me tomorrow.  I'm scared that I have told too many people about this race and that if I don't do good, I will have to explain it all week next week.

However, amongst all of that fear, I have another overwhelming emotion...Pride!  I am so proud of myself for attempting something that I never thought I'd do.  I just hope I can make my family, my friends, my boyfriend, and most importantly, MYSELF proud tomorrow.

Good night all and happy raceday!

What I'm Loving Wednesdays!

Guess what everyone?  It's Wednesday, and you know what happens on Wednesdays...it's not just Hump Day; it's the day when we all get to head over to Jamie's blog to tell you everything we are loving this week:

1.  The Voice!
This show premiered on NBC last night and It. Is. AH-mazing.  That's all I know to say...Such a great show and it's wayyyy better than American Idol, in my humble opinion.

2.  That I have lived in Nashville, TN for 5 years as of last Friday!  I HEART this city!

3.  That the Country Music Marathon is this weekend!
I (along with 30,000 other people) have trained so hard for this big day and I cannot wait until 7:00 on Saturday morning when the race officially begins!

4.  That my parents and Peppermint are coming to town this weekend to cheer me on!  Yes, I just saw them last weekend, and yes, I will see them the following weekend for Mother's Day, but still, it will be fun to have them here!

5.  That my kickball team is currently undefeated and we have another game this weekend!  Hopefully, we can keep our streak alive!

Rain, Rain Go Away!

THIS is what Nashville has to look forward to this evening!  I don't usually get scared during storms, but the looks of this an hour before I am planning to go to bed is kinda stressing me out!  Hopefully, it won't be as bad as it looks, but I have heard there will be flash flood and tornado warnings.  GEE WHIZ!  When will this spring weather move along and make room for summer?

Weekend Update!

Well, my weekend officially started last Tuesday; however, to save all of my readers from hearing about time spent doing laundry and running errands, I think I'll start my weekend update a few days into the week.

On Thursday afternoon, my beau took a half day off work and I was very excited that we were heading to the Nashville Zoo.  For some reason, I LOVE the zoo, and I have found that a random weekday is the absolute best time to go!  Here are a few pics:
Patrick and I enjoying the animals

This elephant was pretty far away...my camera just has a great zoom!

I love giraffes!

Look how close we could get!

The meerkats are always interesting!

I am always fascinated by the flamingos.
After spending the afternoon at the zoo, we decided to wrap up the day with a little shopping!  I MAY have bought a few too many dresses from White House Black Market (LOVE that store)...don't worry, at least one of them will be going back!

Friday was spent enjoying a mani/pedi (the shallac nail polish is fabulous, BTW), having lunch with Alysia, Kevana, and this special girl:
Running 10 miles (which was very UNFUN), and heading Chase's Birthday Party:
Me with the new Nashville Junior Chamber President-Elect, Amanda Wyler!

Patrick finding his inner Hulk Hogan (there was a wrestling theme, in case you were wondering)

Group shot toward the end of the night!

Uh, oh, Patrick found a food truck on our way to the car...and it was YUMMY!
On Saturday, we headed to Knoxville where we played 9 holes of golf with my brother.  Let me preface this by saying that I am NOT the best golfer in the world...HOWEVER, I definitely had the best 9 holes of my life!  Here is a quick pic of the 3 of us:
On Sunday, the whole clan headed to church and then after getting back home, we had the biggest Easter celebration we've had in a LONG time!  This was the first Easter Patrick has gone home with me, and also, my sister and mom both invited friends over whose family lived out of town.  It was so much fun having a lot of people around.  We had a huge lunch, played a little corn hole and even had an Easter Egg Hunt!  It was a blast.  Here is a quick pic of my family all dressed up in our Easter best:
I hope each of you had as wonderful an Easter as I did.

One final thing to mention...please say a quick prayer for my parents' church:  Washington Pike United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN.  There were some really bad storms that came through Knoxville this evening, and a tree was uprooted and landed on the church sanctuary.  There were several people inside, but thank goodness, no one was injured!  There is, however, quite a bit of damage.  It's so strange to think that I was just in that church yesterday...
